He 111H-16 serial number 160591 crashed into the Storebælt 3/1 1945.


The aircraft belonged to 7./ KG 53 and was coded A1+FR
T/o.  Op: Operational flight.


The He 111 was on a operational flight when the crew lost orientation, ran out of fuel and choose to bail out. Three of the crew was found alive in Store Bælt (Great Belt) and was rescued.
 
Pilot Oberleutnant Fritz Jensen was found hanging in a three by his parachute at “Villadsens Minde” at Næsby Strand beach near Korsør. He was unconscious and was helped down by “Falck”`s rescue service and taken to København by ambulance. He regained consciousness en route.
 
Air Gunner Unteroffizier Gerhard Tanner was found drowned in Store Bælt and was brought to København.
He was laid to rest in København Vestre cemetery on 9/1-1945. The ceremony took place at the grave side at 11:00 hrs.

The He 111 was a total loss.
