He 111H-16 serial number 161442 crashed into the North Sea 10/12 1944.
The aircraft belonged to 1./ KG 53 and was coded ?
T/o Alhorn. Op: Airborne launch of V 1.
The He 111H-16 had taken off from Fliegerhorst Varelbusch for the launching of a
V 1 against London when it crashed into the North Sea killing the whole crew.
Feldwebel Fritz Knop, Unteroffizier Waldemar Vahle and Fhr Fritz Brugger has no
known grave while Ofh Kurt Tornier was found near Grebbestand in Sweden on 1/3
1945 and was laid to rest in Kviberg cemetery on 6/3 1945.
Unteroffizier Günter Lis was found washed ashore near Stenbjerg on the Danish
west coast on 27/2 1945. He was laid to rest in Frederikshavn cemetery on 14/3
1945.
