BV 138B serial number 2009 crashed in København 12/5 1944.


The aircraft belonged to Erg. Kü. Flg. St. (F) See and was coded 6H+KH.
T/o København See. Op: Training.


At approx. 15:50 hours the BV 138 was seen coming from the south when it suffered from engine problems and attempted a emergency landing in the Sortedamssø lake. The right hand wing caught up with a number of trees just before touch down and the aircraft overturned and crashed into the lake killing the crew of three.

Also the Danish 71 year old Merchant Harris who was sitting on a nearby bench was killed and a lady named Carla Elmstedt and a 10 year old girl were wounded.

Instructor Pilot Oberfeldwebel Wilhelm Assmann, Student Pilot Obfhr. Hans-Joachim Petter and Student Gunner Feldwebel Hans-Peter Wilken were laid to rest in København Vestre cemetery on 16/5 1944 at 11:00 hours. The ceremony took place from the Eastern Chapel.
