FW 190A-7 serial number 430492 belly landed west of Svendborg 20/2 1944.

The aircraft belonged to 3./ JG 11 and was coded ?
T/o Oldenburg. Op: Attack on American bombers.

During attack on American bombers FW 190A serial number 430492 ran low on fuel and pilot Feldwebel Heinz Birkigt choose to belly land it in a field between the farm “Lehnshøj” and the Amalielyst forest about 5 kilometres west of Svendborg on the island of Fyn.

Birkigt hit his head on the instrument panel during the landing and was taken to the German lazarett in Fredericia to be treated for concussion of the brain.

It is believed that the belly landing happened somewhere around noon.

It appears that a second FW 190 followed Birkigt down and landed in the same field. No further information is available regarding this aircraft.
The aircrafts were removed by the Luftwaffe on 9/3 1944.
