He 111H crashed at Aalborg West 10/4 1940.


The aircraft belonged to 8./Kg 26 and was coded ?
T/o Aalborg Op: Wesreübung.


During take off with a full load of fuel and a load of bombs, the tail wheel of the He 111 hit a Ju 52. The He 111 crashed to the ground and exploded killing the crew of four.

Oberfähnrich Hans J. Hermes, Unteroffizier Frits Braun, Unteroffizier Kurt Hensel and Obergefreiter Johan Schmitting were laid to rest in Nørresundby cemetery on 14/4 1940. Reverend Karl Nielsen officiated at the graveside ceremony and a detachment of German soldiers formed a guard of honour.

In the late sixties they were transferred to Grove cemetery.
