Target Stettin to destroy the town.

Route to target and back:
Bases-Mablethorpe-5530N 0500E-5650N 0810E-5626N 1235E-5518N 1445E-5340N 1508E-Target-5320N 1420E-5330N 1400E-5430N 1400E-5615N 1250E-5620N 0800E-5520N 050E- Mablethorpe-Bases.
 

Tactics.

A: Fly below 2000 ft at 170 ras as far as 0700E on the outward journey. Navigation light might be left on as far as 0500E in order to reduce the risk of collision.
B: From 0700E on track climb at 155 ras to be at 10/12000 ft by pos 5643N 0200E.
C: Maintain that height as far as posn 5518N 1445E at 160 ras.
D: From that position climb at 155 ras to 16/18000 ft.
E: Maintain that height to target and for bombing flying at 160 ras.
F: After bombing loose height and gain speed down to 10/12000 ft by pos 5400N on track at 200 ras.
G: Maintain that height at 170 ras as far as 0800E on the return journey.
H: From 0800E loose height at 190 ras to be at 4/6000 ft by 0500E on track.
I: Maintain that height to bases at 180 ras.


Bomb load.

MK I and III: 50 % of a/c to carry 1x4000 lb H.C. / 5x150x4 lb Incend./ 7x12x30 Lb Incend.
Remaining 50% to carry 1x4000 lb H.C. / 7x150x4 lb Incend / 7x12x30 lb Incend.

Y a/c and ABC: 50 % of a/c to carry 1x4000 lb H.C. / 4x150x4 lb Incend / 1x60x4 lb Incend / 5x12x30 lb Incend.
Remaining a/c to carry: 1x1000 lb MC/GP fused TDO 025 Secs. / 1x500 lb MC/GP fused. LD up to 144 Hrs for preference, otherwise Td. 0.025 Secs. Plus 7x150x4 lb Incend / 7x12x30 lb Incend.


Combat.

Ground defences at target put up moderate heavy flak and nine aircrafts sustained damage. Enemy fighters were active, particularly on the approach over Denmark and 24 of our aircrafts had combat.
14 on the outward route, 5 in the target area and 5 on the homeward route. Claims are 1 ME 110, 1 FW 190 destroyed and a HE 177 and 2 FW 190 damaged.

H Hour at position 5420N 0600E is 00:10 Hrs. Stations to spread aircrafts evently over periode H to H+ 6 MTS.
Aircraft to be at 16.000 ft at Cromer and full operational height by 03:30 E. 14000 to 16000 feet to be avoided over the sea.

Special combined command diversionary Bullseye.
Route: Base - Wisbeck – Cromer – 5420N 0600E – 5410N 0620E – Cromer – Wisbeck – Base.

A/c from 86 O.T.U. reported being intercepted by an u/i e/c at 00:25 hours in position 5405N 0555E 17000 ft. E/a was sighted at 250 yds range on starboard quarter above and came straight. The a/c (H) carried out a corkscrew to port which e/a followed. The reat gunner of the a/c (H) fired 2 short bursts at 400 yards range. No strikes were observed. E/a did not return fire but broke away and was lost.
A/c (A) from 18 OUT and one a/c from 28 OUT both report a midair explosion at approximately 5310N 0143E.
