Halifax II DT628 crashed Strandgården farm, Halskov 21/4-1943.


The aircraft belonged to RAF 51 Sqn Bomber Command and was coded MH-B.
To: 21:23 Snaith. Op: Stettin.


The Halifax was hit by flak from Lei Flak Abt. 985 under command of Hauptmann Seifert at 00:18 hours and crashed at Strandgården farm near Halskov killing all on board.

The eight man crew were Pilot Sgt Bruce T. Brett, Sgt Deryk B. Martin, Sgt John C. Waring, Sgt Roland F. Lyster, P/O Ronald H. Glover, Sgt Peter Shortland, Sgt Clifford C. Vandy and Sgt Alexander Barrie BEM.

It is believed that these are the eight unknown flyers that were laid to rest in København Bispebjerg cemetery on 28/4-1943, reported as having died on 21/4-1943.

This aircraft have previously been reported as lost at sea, but due to pictures which have been found recently it have been possible to identify the Halifax.
