Wellington III BK540 crashed in the North Sea on 29/3-1943.


The aircraft belonged to RCAF (RAF) 429 Sqn. Bomber Command and was coded AL-?
T/O 19:45 East Moor. OP: Bochum.

Last heard by Hull DF (Direction Finder) at 20:43 hours when on position 53`33N 01`40E.
 
Pilot Sgt Harry D.G. Carty RAF, W/Op-Air Gnr. F/S Eric K. Hart RAF, W/Op-Air Gnr. Sgt Robert E. Scott RAF and Air Gnr. William F. Whiteland RAF have no known graves and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Observer F/S David L. Bain rests in Fourfelt cemetery in Esbjerg. His body was brought into Esbjerg harbour on 9/7 and was laid to rest on 12/7-1943.
